WHAT WE GET UP TO IN LADDER
We’d like to think that the main thing we do as Jacob’s Ladder is be there for each other. Like mates do. We like meeting up, some for beer, some for coffee, some for a walk, some just chatting online and others just to go shopping. Like mates do.
But you probably want to know about the organised things we do. Here are the 8 main ones…
THE MAIN STAGE
Free to enter events, held on the third Sunday of each month at 7pm in Hugglescote Social Club. During the evening there’s a team rock music quiz, rock and prog videos, food, all sorts of fun and games and a couple of short serious bits; ‘Climbing The Ladder’ takes a look for just a few minutes at the Christian take on a life issue, and 1-minute of prayer shown on the big screen when we remember those we’ve lost in music during the month. And the bar is open all night. We reckon they must be OK because in the 3 years we’ve been running just about everyone who gives it a try ends up coming again and again…just like the Quo song!
Along with the music, beer drinking and general camaraderie of our happenings and gatherings we want a visual element which will showcase a whole other side to people’s loves and talents. This is Graven Image
Everyone enjoyed our inaugural beer festival so much it would have been rude not to make a bit more of it. So that's what we're doing. Expect not just a bigger and better festival, but snippets, news, suggestions and the like along the way.
If praying is your thing but you’re sometimes looking for inspiration, each week we publish prayers for each day, accompanied by some music or art to hopefully help.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
Taking steps of faith? Up to you quite frankly. Once a week we publish a question about belief, here on the website and on our social media. The questions are not about telling you want you should think or do. They are just intended as an opportunity to take a few minutes out to let your heart, mind and soul to do their thing.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Each week we post a quite from the Bible. Something to ponder. Maybe apply? That's it.
This is the Jacob’s Ladder bi-monthly magazine which came about as an attempt to keep things ticking over while we couldn’t get together because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But it seems to be going down rather well, so there seems no reason to stop. It’s free to download from this website.
THE JESUS DEAL
Not everyone who comes to our Hawley nights is into this – and that’s OK. But for those who want to understand a bit more about the Christian faith, once every couple of months (between editions of LadderLife) we publish The Jesus Deal, here on the website.. They are video presentations, usually no more than 10 minutes long and in a Ladder-style.
JUST FOR LARKS GET-TOGETHERS
A few times a year we hold fundraising events to help us keep running Jacob’s Ladder. These are usually packed with friends, their families and folk who only attend these events (you are very welcome). They are great fun for all ages. They’re always well-advertised, so you won’t miss out on them.
